Can You Put Pavers Around A Pool?

Table of Contents

There is no need to resurface a swimming pool deck with concrete. Pool pavers are installed in the same way as sidewalk and driveway pavers. The main difference is that the pool pavers have a textured surface that makes them slip-resistant. Pool pavers are available in a variety of shapes and colours, so you can set them in a variety of patterns and patterns. You can install the pool pavers as a do-it-yourself project, but it involves a lot of heavy lifting. Ask some friends to help, and then you can all enjoy a pool party on your new pool deck.

How to lay pool pavers:

1. Mark and cut the coping.

Place the pavers overhanging the pool shell by 40 mm. Overlap each second, halving the overlap to mark the cut lines on both pavements. Cut the pavers with a wet brick saw, then replace them to check the alignment.

2. Spread the adhesive.

Lay a narrow mortar bed at the edge of the pool, then use a 10 mm cushioned trowel to spread the adhesive around the perimeter. Apply enough adhesive to lay three pavements at a time, spread slightly wider than the width of the paver.

3. Lay the coping.

Bed each paver gently onto the adhesive, making sure the joint alignment is parallel and the overhang is even. Use the spirit level to ensure that each paver falls slightly away from the pool.

4. Finish the joints.

Crush the joints with wet sand and a cement mixture, leaving an unfilled expansion joint every 2 m. Mask off the edges of the expansion joints, then apply a bead of silicone to each joint and smooth with a soapy finger.

5. Screed the sand.

Set the string lines at the finished paving height and position the screed rails 35 mm below them. Pull the screed board across the rails to level the surface of the sand, remove the rails, and fill the canals with sand.

6. Set laying lines.

Set perpendicular string lines at both ends of the area to be paved to allow full pavements to fit against the wall of the house and step. Use the builder square or 3-4-5 method to make sure they are square.

7. Lay the pavers.

Follow the strings to lay the lead row of pavers, then work from this row to lay the adjacent rows of pavers, leaving a minimum gap of 2 mm between each row. Use a rubber mallet to compact the pavers.

8. Mark the cuts.

Measure each gap to be filled, then transfer the measurement to the paver, marking the straight lines or the level of the spirit. The number of each cut paver and the corresponding position on the nearest full paver for easy replacement.

9. Cut the pavers.

Using a raincoat and full protective gear, use a wet brick saw with a segmented diamond blade to cut the pavers. Lay the pavers, then edge with a wet mortar mixture, and finish by grinding the paved area.

Mistakes to avoid when installing swimming pool pavers

1. Forgetting about a border.

Pool owners love the look of the pavers around their pool. You can interlock them in geometric shapes, circles, or other random patterns. At the same time, it looks natural and polished. However, you must remember to have some kind of enclosing border around these interlocking patterns to keep the patterns from shifting. It is recommended to have a border around the outer edges of the pavers as well as the area surrounding the pool itself.

2. Sticking to one material.

A specific look probably comes to mind when you think of patio pavers. Plain and simple concrete is one of the most commonly seen patios surrounding the pool. However, concrete pool pads offer the same durability while transforming the landscape of your pool area. It’s still concrete, but it’s cut and molded into different, more interesting shapes. In addition to concrete pavements, you can consider brick or stone pavements or any combination of the three. In fact, using a combination of materials, a magnificent variety can be added to the patio.

3. Ignoring the soil.

It’s important to consider the native soil of Vero Beach, FL before you install the pavers. Some soil types are loose and grainy, while some are naturally clay-like and more compact. The type of soil in which your pool is located will determine how thoroughly you need to compact the soil beforehand and how deeply you need to place the base material for the pavements. Your concrete or stone pool pavers may not be mounted directly on the top of the soil, but on the top of the base, like gravel, which is mounted on top of the compacted soil.

4. Choosing the wrong paver company or contractor.

The right professionals can make a difference in your project. You want your project to have high quality, affordability, experience, and great customer service and guarantees. It’s a good idea to contact a number of different companies, get a few estimates of your project, and see a lot of different samples of pavers to help you decide what’s best for you.

5. Forgetting to seal the pavers.

Finally, one of the last mistakes the pool owners have made is not to seal the finished pavements. Even if you’ve found the best company and the most dreamy pavers and installed them perfectly, if you don’t finish the pavers with a top-notch sealer, it’s all for nothing. Sealers protect the color of the pavers and protect them from stains, dandruff, skids, and other elements. Talk to your professional installer about the different types of sealers that are available.
