One way to add some personality to your landscapes is by lining up your street, patio, or entrance with interconnecting concrete pavers. Such pavers are easy to install because they are wired together for a stronger connection. The large variety of colors, easy installation, and durable quality make interlocking concrete pavers very popular today. The process is straightforward, but it involves a number of steps.
Steps in installing interlocking concrete pavers:
Plan for Pavers. Start with a white piece of paper and see what you want to see on the patio or on the lane. In addition to the general shape of the area, plan how the interconnecting concrete pavers are to be laid. In so doing, you can see how the pavers look and give you a sense of how they can be put on the concrete.
Dig for Pavers. You may start digging the outline of the area where the pavers are going after drawing the plan. Before that, make sure you get a report of any underground hazards from the local utility provider. Place the area where the pavers are going. This area should be 12 “bigger than the current contour. Begin the digging at an angle of 90 degrees at the corner of the area. Divide the floor for three feet and the hand for four feet. The distance should be 5 feet between these two points. Dig the field and go to an area with a light traffic depth of 7 inches. Draw to a depth of 11 inches for heavier trafficked areas. It is also necessary to construct the pavers on a pitch away from your house, garage, or other building. Drainage of any water that can form after a rain or snow melt.
Lay Gravel Base. Once the area has been excavated, the foundation of the pavers can be mounted. This should be a rough, easily pouring gravel. This base should be at least 5 centimeters deep in light areas. The base should be at least 10 inches in diameter for more trafficked areas, such as patios.
Install Edging. To keep the pavers from “walking” you will need to install a 2 x 4 treated edging all the way around the area of the walkway.
Lay Sand Footing. When the edge is set, fill it with a 1-inch diameter of sand between the gaps. Screen it with a rake and then a piece of wood. Compact it and make sure it is balanced throughout with a rented compactor.
Install Pavers. Start at the corner of the path and begin to lay the concrete pads in the design that you have chosen. Continue to work until the job has been completed. After completion of the pavements, scatter the masonry sand over the surface and fill the gaps between the pavements. Replace the waste and stack the concrete pavers.
